Artist - Shirley Beyer

I experience the world predominately by way of a visual, feeling sense. Because the world is full of color, I paint what I see even if others do not see it the same way. Color feels like energy and movement to me. I can walk outside and feel the colors of flowers, the sky, and the distant mountains. My spirit energy is
elevated by the experience of putting colors down on a canvas or other substrate. I intuitively release my feelings and then allow the art to tell me what it wants to
be.
Shirley was raised in Corpus Christi, TX. She spent more time outdoors than in and was extremely curious about the world of nature. Under the guidance of very creative parents, she learned to cook, sew, and paint by number. She never took an art class in school.
After two years of college, Shirley married. In 1968, she and her husband moved to Houston, had two fine sons, and took a few art classes. When her sons left home for college, she shifted gears and returned to college to get a master’s degree in counseling psychology. Subsequently, she worked as a psychotherapist, took art classes at the Glassell School of Art, and attended art workshops.
Shirley paints using acrylics, collages, and mixed media on canvas, paper, and board. As an intuitive painter, she “lets the art tell her what it wants to be.” It is her soul's work.
