Artist - Susan Salter

Susan Salter 1.png
I am a contemplative encaustic artist focused on the practice of introspection. Encaustic, meaning “burn in,” involves melting beeswax with damar resin, creating an organic medium. Fusing these elements with heat symbolizes my belief in the interconnectedness of all
beings united by a higher power. My work reflects an alchemy between contemplation and creativity, resulting in art rich with layers, textures, shapes, symbols, and hidden messages. I strive to convey my inner experiences through color and form, drawing inspiration from natural and metaphysical sciences and exploring the delicate balance between the earth and
humanity.
Art is my language.  Encaustic is my words.

Susan is a multi-disciplinary visual, literary, and theatre arts artist. She is a playwright and has created theatrical props and sets for local churches and theater companies. With a background in art and design from the Glassell School of Art and an MFA in directing from the University of Houston, her primary visual medium is Encaustic painting, incorporating collage, sculpture, and assemblage. Susan continually hones her skills through Painting with Fire, an online encaustic class. She has exhibited widely and received several awards, including the “Judges Award”  at the ”Ephemera exhibit in Mulraney, Ireland. Her work is inspired by a deep inner practice influenced by natural and metaphysical sciences, meditation, poetry, and

yoga. Susan lives with her husband in Richmond, Texas, and creates from her spacious home

studio.
